Laura Evangelista's cheerful ceramic designs come from a store house of childhood memories. As a child, Laura spent summer at her Grandfather’s orchard picking peaches and what seemed like endless bowls of cherries. Playing in the gardens of their amazing back yard, she would often pick from the colorful selection of flowers in their gardens. The lively designs found in her work today evoke these sun-drenched summers spent with her family. Recently named a NICHE Award finalist for 2005, Laura’s work has been featured in: NICHE magazine, HOME Magazine, Tampa Magazine, American Style Magazine, The Orlando Sentinel, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, American Craft Council Magazine, The Crafts Report, and Craft Business News. Laura and her work were also selected for a featured article by Cape Cod Life Magazine on artists to collect on Cape Cod. After a lot of reflection, Laura decided to return to one of her loves, that of teaching. Many of you recall that before her ceramic line 'took off' Laura was a high school art teacher in Barnstable, MA on Cape Cod. Now that her fun , and athletic little boys are playing more baseball and soccer, she decided to slow down her show schedule and go back to teaching. She is now the lead art teaching for the Washington International School Primary School (1st thru 5th grade art ) in Georgetown in Washington, DC. She LOVES being back in the classroom and enjoys spending more time with her sons. Nicholas just completed the Primary School and is moving up to the Upper Campus this fall. He is loving the city, his new friends from all over the world, and the rich languages, cultures he is studying. This year he's taking Chinese and French! William has one more year of preschool before he attends school with Mommy, but also enjoys DC. He says YES to all opportunities to ride the Metro, enjoys the museums, and his friends in preschool! Both boys still enjoy art so much and keep Mommy very busy in the studio in Maryland and the studio on the Cape. Thank you to all of you who have supported all the changes over the last few years. Your support and kindness has meant the world to the family ! Enjoy a wonderful fall.
